George Nelson 8000 Executive Series Credenza for Herman Miller in Walnut
by MCM-SF
This exceptional walnut exterior and black door credenza was designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller’s Executive Office Group circa 1962. This great mid-century modern design makes a bold statement and provides ample storage. The left section includes two storage areas and one adjustable shelf. The right section features two drawers (an upper stationary drawer and a lower file drawer) and a pull-out tray with a power supply. The walnut case is in good shape and has beautiful wood grain. The interiors are clean, and the doors slide smoothly and has the maker’s mark.
The Herman Miller 8000 Series Executive Office Group was a line of high-end office furniture introduced in the 1970s and designed to offer both functional and aesthetic qualities for executive environments. This furniture line was created during a period when Herman Miller, a company known for innovative design, was heavily focused on creating systems furniture that catered to corporate office needs. The key features are a modular design to customize for personal workspaces, high-quality materials, timeless design, functionality, ergonomics, and integrated office technology support. The line included a series of executive Desks, credenzas, bookcases, storage cabinets, and filing solutions.
The 8000 Series Executive Office Group reflected the growing demand for sophisticated, executive-level office furniture that blended luxury with functionality. While Herman Miller has since focused on newer lines and modern office concepts, the 8000 Series remains a notable example of mid-century office furniture design. Collectors and design enthusiasts still appreciate this series for its quality craftsmanship, historical importance, and aesthetic appeal.
