Hans Wegner was a Danish furniture designer known for his iconic contributions to mid-20th-century modern design. Born on April 2, 1914, Wegner's work is characterized by its simplicity, functionality, and craftsmanship. He was one of the most prolific designers of his time. Wegner's designs often combined traditional craftsmanship techniques with modern forms and materials. He was particularly skilled in working with wood, and many of his designs feature elegant, organic shapes.
The Daybed GE-258 in teak, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama Denmark in 1954, showcases Wegner's signature blend of craftsmanship, functionality, and elegant simplicity. This convertible daybed/sofa, created in 1965, features a teak frame and a woven cane backrest. When opened, the backrest reveals a hidden space for blankets, pillows, etc., while exposing a larger sleeping area. In excellent condition for its vintage age.
